Why Voice Notes exists
Speaking is fast. Finding the useful part later should be easy.
Audio captures nuance that typed notes miss, but long recordings quickly become difficult to reuse. Voice Notes keeps the source recording and makes its content searchable, readable, and organized.

Voice Notes automatically publishes completed transcript text and metadata through an Apple App Group when that shared container is available. LifeStory can import the feed idempotently and turn it into a memory. The audio file is not transferred.

Privacy and data handling
Your recording library stays on your device.
No Voice Notes account is required. Original recordings, saved transcripts, models, and settings are stored locally unless you explicitly share or export something. If you select Apple Speech, recognition may use Apple's service depending on language and system availability.
Local by default
Original recordings, transcripts, waveform data, folders, titles, and summaries remain in the app's local storage.
Fully local Whisper option
The downloadable Whisper model transcribes on your iPhone. Apple Speech is a separate option and may use Apple's service when on-device recognition is unavailable.
Controlled data paths
Audio may be processed by Apple when you choose Apple Speech and iOS uses its service. Completed transcript metadata is published automatically to the shared on-device App Group. Other transfers happen only through an explicit share or export action.
Narrow LifeStory connection
The automatic local feed contains transcript text and metadata—not the source audio—and stays within the shared on-device App Group.

FAQ
Common questions
Does Voice Notes send recordings to a cloud transcription service?
Voice Notes does not send audio to a Prifina server. Whisper transcription runs locally. If you choose Apple Speech, iOS may use Apple's recognition service depending on the selected language and available system support. The optional title model runs locally.
Can it transcribe Finnish and mixed-language recordings?
Yes. Whisper supports multilingual transcription, and the app can auto-detect or use a selected language.
What happens if a phone call interrupts recording?
The app preserves the active recording, shows the interruption state, and attempts to resume automatically when iOS returns microphone access.
Does LifeStory receive my audio?
No. Voice Notes automatically writes completed transcript text and metadata to the shared on-device feed, but original audio remains private to Voice Notes.
